“Deaf Detection & Development Program” launched which included mobile van programs, public awareness, materials circulated, and children tested for hearing impairment. The slogan “Early Detection of Hearing Loss — Everyone’s Responsibility!” was promoted.
1974
Co-ordinated and sponsored international conferences related to addressing and developing diagnostic procedures, early care of deaf children, and auditory disorders. Developed programs, funded on-going programs/clinics, purchased equipment and provided for other costs related to hearing & speech services all across Canada.

The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists presented an Award for Distinguished Service to Robert Coulling of the Elks of Canada.
1987
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) awarded the members the Award for Distinguished Service — the first time the award had been given outside the US.

The name of the charity is changed to Elks & Royal Purple Fund for Children. The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists award the Elks & Royal Purple of Canada the Consumer Advocacy Award.

The National Charities Committee conduct a questionnaire of all members to solicit feedback regarding the future direction of the Elks & Royal Purple Fund for Children. The members strongly endorse keeping the focus on helping children and on programs related to hearing and speech.

The National Charities Committee introduce the butterfly as the symbol for children who learn to hear and communicate, and are transformed!
2014
The National Charities Committee announces a new partnership between the Elks of Canada and Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) to pursue our mutual goals: applauding the provinces that have implemented EHDI programs, advocating for the programs and standards recommended by the Canadian Paediatric Society, and supporting the Canadian Infant Hearing Taskforce who run newborn hearing screening and intervention programs across Canada.

2017In addition to the Personal Assistance Program, the on-going support of seven clinical programs that address communication disorders, and the Scholarship Program (17 scholarships), the National Charities Committee set a new goal related to hearing & speech — work to ensure that all newborns in Canada are screened at birth and those detected with hearing impairment will have the early intervention and access to services they require.
