| What we do
Provincial Program Support
In addition to our Personal Assistance program, The Fund for Children has for many years and continues to contribute to provincial programs across the country in support of their missions and programs related to the area of hearing and speech for children under the age of 19.
The programs we support annually include:
BC Family Hearing Resource Center
BC Family Hearing Resource Society is the largest not-for-profit organization in British Columbia serving children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, aged birth to school-entry. For 35 years, they have been providing intervention, support, education, sign language instruction and peer-to-peer mentoring to families throughout the province.
ISTAR
The Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research (ISTAR) is a self-funded institute of the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. They offer specialized treatment to children, teens and adults who stutter. In addition, they conduct research into stuttering, offer advanced professional training for speech-language pathology students and clinicians, and promote public awareness of stuttering and its treatment.
SPARC
The Elks and Royal Purple Saskatchewan Pediatric Auditory Rehabilitation Center (SPARC) is a family-centered program providing early detection, assessment, and rehabilitation for children with hearing loss. A close working relationship exists between SPARC, the Audiology Department at Royal University Hospital, and the Saskatchewan Hearing Aid Plan. SPARC is an active participant in the Saskatchewan Cochlear Implant Program.
Central Speech & Hearing Clinic
Central Speech and Hearing Clinic (CSHC) offers a range of programs, services and supports that include Auditory-Verbal Therapy, children’s audiology services, the adult cochlear implant (CI) program, adult aural CI rehabilitation, bone anchored implant services, and professional training.
VOICE Camp
VOICE Family Camp is for families with children with hearing loss who are learning to listen and speak. It’s a popular weekend of caring and sharing by both parents and children. Lifelong friendships are made in these few days! Held each year in August, VOICE Camp offers families an informal opportunity to meet other parents, siblings and children who are deaf or hard of hearing and who are learning to listen and speak.
